There are going to be some jobs that are more dangerous than others. If you're working as a stock broker than you likely have less physical risks on a daily basis than someone that is employed in a factory that does destrapping of huge tree logs or someone who works for the fire department. But, there are ways that you could get injured at almost any job. You should be aware of what your workplace hazards might be and what to do if you are injured at work.
On your first day of working in a job with industrial water treatment chemicals or for a restaurant you likely went through some safety training and were told a little about the different dangers that might happen while you're at work. If your job is in a factory this might have involved telling you about the Material Safety Data Sheets for different products and where they are kept. On the other hand, if your job is on the twentieth floor of an office building than you would want to know what to do in case of fire. Make sure that you're paying attention during this talk and write down any important information that you might forget.
Know who is in charge of safety at your workplace. There should be one person or a committee of people who are in change of making sure that everything is kept as safe as possible and that people have all of the information they might need. If you're starting to work in a place that sells Worthington pump parts or working for a sports arena than you might want to start by asking the human resources representative if they know who is responsible for these things. These are the people you will want to talk to if you're missing information or want to report a hazard.
Know what your workplace's policy is when someone is injured on the job. You should be required to fill out an accident report and have a person in the office who can help you with that. If you're working with used woodworking machines or heavy machinery than it might not be too rare for someone to at least get a cut but this is different if you're working in a less hazardous environment. Even falling down the stairs on the way to lunch should be reported. You never know if it will turn into an injury that you might need health coverage for. If you're injured working for cosmetic dentists, Toronto architects or a school, they are only required to compensate you if there is proper documentation.
